Ensemble bâti dont la construction a été initiée par la Compagnie des Indes puis par les gouverneurs Pierre-Benoît Dumas et Mahé de Labourdonnais, au début du 19e siècle, en raison du développement économique de Saint-Denis et des échanges commerciaux avec l'extérieur. Bien que délimité visuellement en deux entités, il s'agit d'un seul édifice. Construit en maçonnerie enduite, structuré par des éléments en pierre de taille et par la présence d'une charpente en bois, composé d'un corps de logis à deux niveaux sur rue élevé sur cave, simple en profondeur et distribué en son centre par un passage couvert traversant, donnant sur une arrière-cour végétalisée et pavée de basalte en partie. L'ensemble présente également deux ailes latérales au nord et au sud, saillantes côté cour, formant les anciennes dépendances ouvrant sur la ruelle Saint-Paul.

History
Built complex whose construction was initiated by the Company of the Indies and then by the governors Pierre-Benoît Dumas and Mahé de Labourdonnais, at the beginning of the 19th century, due to the economic development of Saint-Denis and commercial exchanges with the outside world. Although visually delimited into two entities, it is a single building. Constructed in rendered masonry, structured by ashlar stone elements and by the presence of a timber roof structure, composed of a main dwelling with two storeys on street level raised over a cellar, simple in depth and distributed in its centre by a covered passage running through it, opening onto a vegetated rear courtyard partly paved with basalt. The complex also presents two lateral wings to the north and south, projecting on the courtyard side, forming the former dependencies opening onto Ruelle Saint-Paul.
