En 1828, une sucrerie est établie sur le domaine de La Plaine, dans le cadre de la conversion des terres de cette région de Saint-Paul en champs de cannes à sucre. Cette mutation agricole majeure du début du 19e siècle a été rendue possible grâce à la création d'un canal d'irrigation, baptisé plus tard canal Lemarchand. History
In 1828, a sugar works was established on the La Plaine estate, as part of the conversion of the lands of this region of Saint-Paul into sugar cane fields. This major agricultural change of the early 19th century was made possible by the creation of an irrigation canal, later named the Lemarchand canal. This property was sold in 2005 to the Gabriel Martin hospital of Saint-Paul for the construction of the new hospital of the west.
