Historique
Lusine de Pierrefonds a été avec lusine des Casernes et celle de Grands-Bois une des plus importantes usines de Saint-Pierre. Créée avant 1837 par Lebidan, lusine de Pierrefonds fonctionne alors grâce à une machine à vapeur complétée par une roue hydraulique prenant son eau dans le canal Saint-Etienne. Les bâtiments actuels existaient en 1871, ils ont servi jusquà larrêt de lusine en 1969. Deux bâtiments principaux en maçonnerie sont implantés sur le site : lusine proprement dite, grand bâtiment en T, qui renferme les moulins, machines à vapeur, roue hydraulique, ainsi que lensemble des cuves, évaporateurs, malaxeurs et centrifugeuses nécessaires à la production du sucre ; le second bâtiment, au nord-est, est constitué de trois corps de bâtiments sarticulant autour dune cour carrée et abritait une distillerie. Derrière lusine sont installés les écuries et les parcs à boeufs. Au sud-ouest se trouvent les bâtiments administratifs et les magasins. Le camp des engagés entoure le site vers lest et le sud. Lensemble des bâtiments est bien construit, en maçonnerie, sobrement décoré. Il sarticule autour de la plate-forme de réception de la canne, près de laquelle se trouve un bassin circulaire (abreuvoir) , construit dans laxe de lusine.

History
The Pierrefonds mill was, along with the Casernes mill and that of Grands-Bois, one of the largest mills in Saint-Pierre. Created before 1837 by Lebidan, the Pierrefonds mill operated by means of a steam engine supplemented by a water wheel drawing its water from the Saint-Etienne canal. The current buildings existed in 1871, they served until the mill's closure in 1969. Two main masonry buildings are located on the site: the mill proper, a large T-shaped building, which houses the mills, steam engines, water wheel, as well as all the vats, evaporators, mixers and centrifuges necessary for sugar production; the second building, to the north-east, consists of three building blocks articulated around a square courtyard and housed a distillery. Behind the mill are located the stables and cattle enclosures. To the south-west are located the administrative buildings and stores. The labourers' camp surrounds the site to the east and south. The whole of the buildings is well built, in masonry, soberly decorated. It is articulated around the sugar cane reception platform, near which is located a circular basin (watering trough), built along the axis of the mill.
