Au milieu du 18e siècle, Gros-Morne est érigé en paroisse. Des édifices religieux se succèdent en fonction de l'évolution de la population. En 1813, un cyclone s'abat sur la Martinique et endommage l'église. Le 26 octobre 1823, l'assemblée paroissiale décide sa reconstruction. Achevée en 1825, elle est ouverte au culte.
