In 1899, Jules Gravereaux, administrator of the Bon Marché, asked the landscape architect Edouard André to design a garden for him to house his collection of roses. The first monovarietal rose garden in the world was created. In 1906, the rose garden was enriched with a rose theatre now disappeared. It comprises thirteen collection gardens arranged around the French rose garden. The rose garden today presents 3100 different species and varieties, and 16,000 rose bushes.
