La partie nord de la parcelle fut comprise dans les grandes campagnes d'embellissement des 17e et 18e siècles. La partie sud fut laissée en prairie. Au début du 19e siècle, le terrain fut utilisé en haras. Vers 1865, expérimentation des premières mitrailleuses. L'ONERA est l'héritier des différents organismes qui, dès 1877, ont affirmé la vocation aéronautique du site. Les bâtiments témoignent des recherches conduites sur l'aérostation et, au début du 20e siècle, sur l'aviation naissante. Le colonel Renard y effectue ses premiers essais de dirigeable à propulsion électrique.

History
The northern part of the plot was included in the great embellishment campaigns of the 17th and 18th centuries. The southern part was left as meadow.
