Historique

History
The building is built in 1733. From 1747 onwards, a formal park is laid out around the castle, with bosquets, formal parterres, water jets, basins, water feature, reflecting pool and hydraulic system. In 1782, the formal park is transformed into a picturesque park with a grotto with two rooms decorated with Pacific shells. From 1857, the botanist Pierre-Alphonse-Martin Lavallée makes his first plantings of trees and shrubs. In 1858, he undertakes to gather 'all ligneous plants cultivable in the open air'. From 1860, he decides to arrange his collections and establish schools of trees in line, grouping plants classified by family and labeled. At his death, the estate counted 6,500 species. In 1869, the castle is enlarged and two wings are added on either side of the central body to house the personnel employed in the arboretum. The botanical collections continue to be enlarged today.
