Vers 1760, découverte de gisements de kaolin dans la région de Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche. La carrière de la Grande Vergne est exploitée jusqu'en 1936 pour alimenter la manufacture de Sèvres. Constructions majoritairement fragiles, en pans de bois et torchis. Les bâtiments révèlent sur le site un mélange d'activités d'extraction, agricoles et maraîchères. Les fosses étaient en activité à ciel ouvert. Un système de wagonnets est mis en place dès 1880. Ce site est à la fois le plus ancien et celui qui a fonctionné le plus longtemps.

History
Around 1760, discovery of kaolin deposits in the region of Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche. The Grande Vergne quarry is exploited until 1936 to supply the Sèvres manufactory. Constructions predominantly fragile, in timber framing and daub. The buildings reveal on the site a mixture of extraction, agricultural and market gardening activities. The pits were in open-air operation. A system of small wagons is put in place from 1880. This site is at once the oldest and the one that operated the longest.
