Historique
Villevaleix était un prieuré féminin de l'ordre de Saint-Benoît, dépendant de l'abbaye de Bonnesaignes. L'église, actuellement utilisée comme étable et grange, semble dater du 12e siècle. Elle est de plan rectangulaire, à nef unique. La façade occidentale est percée d'un portail en arc brisé, à trois voussures, de type limousin, à chapiteaux lisses et limité par une archivolte ornée d'un masque à la clef. La porte méridionale est remarquable par sa découpe formée d'un linteau trilobé reposant sur des consoles chantournées. A l'intérieur, le vaisseau est couvert d'une voûte en berceau brisé reposant sur une corniche en quart-de-rond et sur une série d'arcades en arc brisé qui rythment les murs latéraux. La séparation de la nef et du choeur est marquée par un grand arc doubleau à deux rouleaux reposant sur des piliers à dosseret. History
Villevaleix was a female priory of the Order of Saint-Benoît, dependent on the abbey of Bonnesaignes. The church, currently used as a stable and barn, appears to date from the 12th century. It is of rectangular plan, with a single nave. The western facade is pierced by a portal with broken arch, with three voussoirs, of Limousin type, with plain capitals and bounded by an archivolt decorated with a mask at the keystone. The south door is remarkable for its cutting formed by a trilobed lintel resting on curved consoles. Inside, the nave is covered with a broken barrel vault resting on a quarter-round cornice and on a series of broken-arch arcades which punctuate the side walls. The separation of the nave and choir is marked by a great double-roll pointed arch resting on pillars with dosseret. Near the church is erected a tombstone effigy of an abbess.
