"L'ancienne église Saint-Pierre se dresse à environ 1 km du bourg, de l'autre côté de la rivière. Vendue comme bien national en 1794, elle est affectée à un usage agricole. Malgré plusieurs remaniements, elle conserve son chevet plat à triplet. A l'intérieur du chœur, les traces d'arrachement d'une voûte en berceau sont encore visibles. La partie supérieure de l'arc triomphal du chœur, située actuellement dans un grenier, présente deux saintes surmontées chacune d'un petit personnage. Elles sont identifiées par des inscriptions en lettres onciales : au sud, sainte Radegonde, grande sainte poitevine, et au nord sainte Valérie, première martyre limousine. Cette double présence reflète la position géographique de La Trimouille et de sa région : au seuil du Poitou et du Limousin. Le style de ces peintures est très proche de celui des peintures de l'abbatiale de Saint-Savin, où l'on retrouve d'ailleurs dans la nef, au-dessus de la baie donnant dans la tribune, le même type de personnage que celui représenté au-dessus des saintes de La Trimouille." History
The old church of Saint-Pierre stands approximately 1 km from the town, on the other side of the river. Sold as a national asset in 1794, it is converted to agricultural use. Despite several alterations, it retains its flat chevet with triplet. Inside the choir, the traces of removal of a barrel vault are still visible. The upper part of the triumphal arch of the choir, now situated in an attic, presents two saints each surmounted by a small figure. They are identified by inscriptions in uncial lettering: to the south, Saint Radegonde, the great saint of Poitou, and to the north Saint Valerie, the first martyr of Limousin. This double presence reflects the geographical position of La Trimouille and its region: at the threshold of Poitou and Limousin. The style of these paintings is very close to that of the paintings of the abbey church of Saint-Savin, where one finds indeed in the nave, above the opening giving onto the gallery, the same type of figure as that represented above the saints of La Trimouille.
