History
This is a commemorative monument to the tragic adventure that resulted in the disappearance of Commander Guilbaud in the Arctic Ocean in 1928. It consists of an elongated base at the centre of which rises a kind of mast bearing a crosspiece and against which is erected, on a base, the statue of the commander in his officer's uniform. Allegories of the birth of the hero and his tragic epic are carved in low relief: to the left of the statue, his birthplace and the date of his birth, and, to the right, the flying boat flying over the sea and the date of his disappearance.
