La première mention du domaine des Gaffins remonte à 1548. Un bail de 1758 atteste de la présence d'un moulin à eau et mentionne deux activités dans le domaine : blanchiment des toiles et moulin à huile. La présence d'étuves à garance est attestée dans les matrices cadastrales de 1819. En 1820, un acte de vente décrit quatre bâtiments, deux en pisé servant d'étuves et de moulin à rober ; le troisième garni de six meules ; le quatrième servant d'habitation au contre-maître. Au milieu du 19e siècle, le bâtiment des étuves est agrandi, celui des meules doublé en profondeur et la maison de maître, à l'est de la cour, construite à son emplacement actuel. La halle de séchage date de 1863. Le domaine est vendu en 1896 et divisé en lots. La même année, le chemin public des Gaffins est prolongé vers le nord, entraînant un réaménagement des lieux, organisés dorénavant autour d'une cour privative à l'est. A partir de 1920, l'usine des Gaffins sert à la trituration de l'ocre, abritant l'usine de trituration et les laboratoires, tandis que la direction et les bureaux étaient à Avignon. Cette nouvelle affectation va perturber le volume intérieur des étuves. Les meules à broyer l'ocre sont installées au rez-de-chaussée des étuves à garance tandis que les étages sont entresolés pour accueillir de nombreux blutoirs. Cette activité cessa en 1935

History
The first mention of the domain of Gaffins dates back to 1548. A lease of 1758 attests to the presence of a water mill and mentions two activities in the domain: linen bleaching and oil mill. The presence of madder vats is attested in the cadastral matrices of 1819. In 1820, a deed of sale describes four buildings, two in rammed earth serving as vats and as a mill for the robber; the third furnished with six millstones; the fourth serving as dwelling for the foreman. In the middle of the 19th century, the vat building is enlarged, the one with the millstones doubled in depth and the master's house, to the east of the courtyard, built in its current location. The drying shed dates from 1863. The domain is sold in 1896 and divided into lots. The same year, the public path of Gaffins is extended towards the north, bringing about a rearrangement of the premises, organised henceforth around a private courtyard to the east. From 1920, the Gaffins factory served the grinding of ochre, housing the grinding mill and laboratories, whilst the management and offices were in Avignon. This new use was to disturb the interior volume of the vats. The millstones for grinding ochre are installed on the ground floor of the madder vats whilst the storeys are fitted with intermediary floors to accommodate numerous bolters. This activity ceased in 1935
