Historique
Le monument, situé à l'entrée du jardin du rocher des Doms, vient compléter le mausolée construit dans le cimetière Saint-Véran ainsi que les plaques en marbre portant l'inscription des 1073 morts apposée dans le hall de l'hôtel de ville. A la suite d'un concours national, le projet proposé par le sculpteur Louis Botinelly est adopté. Le monument se compose d'une figure féminine en marbre de Carrare représentant l'allégorie du Souvenir. Elle ne porte aucun attribut guerrier. De part et d'autre se déploient deux bas-reliefs symbolisant l'Enterrement d'un Poilu par ses frères d'armes et Vers la Victoire. Sur la face postérieure du monument, un autre relief représente la Douleur, une femme agenouillée devant un soldat mort. Ce monument aux morts de la guerre 1914-1918 est inauguré le 11 novembre 1924. History
The monument, situated at the entrance to the garden of the rocher des Doms, comes to complement the mausoleum built in the Saint-Véran cemetery as well as the marble plaques bearing the inscription of the 1073 dead affixed in the town hall entrance hall. Following a national competition, the project proposed by the sculptor Louis Botinelly is adopted. The monument consists of a female figure in Carrara marble representing the allegory of Remembrance. It bears no military attribute. On either side two bas-reliefs unfold symbolizing the Burial of a Poilu by his brothers-in-arms and Towards Victory. On the rear face of the monument, another relief represents Sorrow, a woman kneeling before a dead soldier. This war memorial for 1914-1918 is inaugurated on 11 November 1924. It is an original work, of simple forms, close to the Art Deco style.
