Historique

History
The hôtel de Girard is a long rectangular building with wings returning on the front courtyard (only the eastern wing is preserved). It comprises two storeys above a ground floor. The entrance door, part of the front façade, the staircase and the vaulted rooms of the ground floor date from the mid-17th century. In the third quarter of the 18th century, the Girard family, who had just acquired the dwelling, carried out significant alterations, enlarging the building and reworking almost all the decorations. The family counted an inventor, Philippe de Girard, designer of the flax spinning machine. In 1901, the dwelling was bequeathed to the commune, which converted it into a museum and school. The conversion work broadly respected the layouts and decorations of the hôtel, but transformed the gardens into a recreation yard.
