Historique
L'église paroissiale de Piolenc est celle d'un ancien prieuré bénédictin dépendant du monastère clunisien de Saint-Saturnin-du-Port. Prieuré fondé autour de l'an mil. L'église priorale fut bâtie probablement en même temps (appareil en moellons cassés au marteau caractéristique du 11e siècle) : nef en berceau plein cintre, transept avec croisée surmontée d'une coupole sur trompes. Deux collatéraux de style gothique encadrent la nef. Choeur tardif, remanié à l'époque classique. Tour-porche accolée à l'ouest au 12e siècle (partie haute remaniée au 19e siècle). Cette église est un des rares édifices provençaux du premier art roman méditerranéen.

History
The parish church of Piolenc is that of a former Benedictine priory dependent on the Cluniac monastery of Saint-Saturnin-du-Port. Priory founded around the year one thousand. The priory church was probably built at the same time (stone-work with rubble stone worked with hammer characteristic of the 11th century): nave with barrel vault and round arch, transept with crossing topped by a dome on squinches. Two aisles of Gothic style frame the nave. Late choir, remodelled in the classical period. Porch tower attached to the west in the 12th century (upper part remodelled in the 19th century). This church is one of the rare Provençal buildings of the first Mediterranean Romanesque.
