Une église, dépendance de l'abbaye Saint-André de Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, est attestée à Méthamis dès le début du 12e siècle. L'édifice actuel est hétérogène : nef romane, choeur gothique et chapelles latérales postérieures. Nef voûtée en berceau brisé sur doubleaux, choeur voûté d'ogives orné de chapiteaux sculptés de tradition romane figurant des colombes, têtes humaines, crochets feuillagés... Au 19e siècle, agrandissement des chapelles latérales, qu'on transforme en pseudo-bas-côtés en les reliant entre elles. Nouvelle sacristie élevée en 1853-1854, reconstruction du campanile en 1875-1878... Accès par un escalier monumental à quatre volées et deux montées.

History
A church, dependency of the Abbey of Saint-André de Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, is attested in Méthamis from the beginning of the 12th century. The current building is heterogeneous: Romanesque nave, Gothic choir and later lateral chapels. Nave vaulted with a broken barrel vault on ribs, choir with rib vault ornated with capitals sculpted in Romanesque tradition depicting doves, human heads, foliate crockets... In the 19th century, enlargement of the lateral chapels, which are transformed into pseudo-aisles by connecting them to each other. New sacristy erected in 1853-1854, reconstruction of the bell tower in 1875-1878... Access by a monumental staircase with four flights and two ramps.
