Projected by the consuls of the city from 1621, the Clock Tower of Saint-Maximin was erected in 1647, completed the following year by the addition of a dome "befitting its decoration", namely a wrought-iron campanile. Of square plan, approximately twenty metres high, the tower is constructed in rubble stone masonry with render. It presents architectural decoration in ashlar stone characteristic of the first half of the 17th century: moulded bands, toothed bonding, crowning with ornamental ball finials. It houses a spiral staircase around an opening with timber and plaster structure, whose forty-five steps lead up to the clock chamber. Access to the upper parts, vaulted upper chamber covering the tower, roof and campanile, is made by ladders. The campanile of 1648, of the type known as "cosmological" (symbolic representation of planets around the sun) forms the cage for a bell of 1476, originally placed in the basilica and one of the oldest in the Var department.
