Historique
Maison édifiée dans l'extension 17e de la ville ancienne, à proximité de l'enceinte du 16e siècle. Façade refaite fin 19e - début 20e siècle. L'édifice a conservé un escalier à cage ouverte décoré de gypseries. Chaque rampant reçoit un panneau : cartouche central imitant des cuirs enroulés avec médaillon occupé par une divinité antique. Le reste du panneau est orné de grappes de fruits, oiseaux, putti, trophées d'armes, rinceaux, figures grotesques, animaux réalistes ou fantastiques. L'appelation "maison du corsaire" viendrait d'une tradition orale basée sur l'interprétation erronée du médaillon figurant Mars. Le style et l'iconographie de "l'escalier du corsaire" le rattachent au maniérisme, et à une veine pittoresque issue des modèles bellifontains.

History
House built in the 17th-century extension of the old town, near the 16th-century fortifications. Façade refaced in the late 19th - early 20th century. The building has retained an open-cage staircase decorated with gypseries. Each string receives a panel: central cartouche imitating rolled leather with a medallion occupied by an antique deity. The rest of the panel is decorated with bunches of fruit, birds, putti, trophies of arms, scrollwork, grotesque figures, realistic or fantastic animals. The name "corsair's house" would come from an oral tradition based on an erroneous interpretation of the medallion depicting Mars. The style and iconography of the "corsair's staircase" link it to Mannerism and to a picturesque vein derived from Fontainebleau models.
