Historique
La première mention du castrum de Caylus date de 1176. Un inventaire de 1351 décrit le château qui se compose alors d'une tour carrée avec un escalier en vis, une tour ronde, deux salles, deux chambres, une chapelle, une enceinte De nos jours ne subsistent que les deux premiers niveaux de la tour carrée. Le château est reconstruit à partir de 1893 par l'architecte Paul Gout sous forme de bâtiment néo-médiéval avec tours d'angle, fenêtres à meneaux, hautes toitures. Les salles du rez-de-chaussée conservent leurs décors intérieurs. Vers 1911, l'ancienne chapelle est à son tour refaite, sans doute en conservant une partie des murs. Dans le même temps, un parc paysager est créé sur l'ensemble du site du château Vieux, utilisant l'organisation en terrasses des anciennes fortifications.

History
The first mention of the castrum of Caylus dates from 1176. An inventory of 1351 describes the castle which then consists of a square tower with a spiral staircase, a round tower, two halls, two chambers, a chapel, an enclosure. Nowadays only the two first levels of the square tower remain. The castle is rebuilt from 1893 by the architect Paul Gout in the form of a neo-medieval building with corner towers, mullioned windows, high roofs. The rooms on the ground floor retain their interior decoration. Around 1911, the old chapel is in turn remade, probably preserving part of the walls. At the same time, a landscape park is created over the entire site of the old castle, using the organisation in terraces of the old fortifications.
