Historique
Les bains-douches d'Abbeville ont été construits en 1909-1910 sur les plans des architectes Greux et Marchand. La décoration sculptée en a été assurée par le sculpteur amiénois Leclabart. L'administration municipale avait un instant songé à les installer à la Halle aux Toiles. Cette création des bains-douches est l'utilisation au profit des habitants des économies de la Caisse d'Epargne d'Abbeville. Le bâtiment, construit sur une parcelle de l'emplacement de l'ancien quartier de cavalerie Saint-Joseph, est construit essentiellement en briques de sable avec fronton en pierre sculpté à motifs végétaux et mascarons. History
The Abbeville baths-showers were constructed in 1909-1910 on the plans of architects Greux and Marchand. The sculptural decoration was provided by the Amiens sculptor Leclabart. The municipal administration had briefly considered installing them at the Halle aux Toiles. This creation of the baths-showers is the use, for the benefit of the inhabitants, of the savings of the Caisse d'Epargne of Abbeville. The building, constructed on a plot of the site of the old Saint-Joseph cavalry barracks, is constructed essentially in sand bricks with a gable in sculpted stone with vegetal motifs and mask heads. The ceremony of the laying of the foundation stone, on 17 July 1909, was presided over by mayor Charles Bignon, accompanied by deputy mayors Henry Picquet and Bertin, after which the attendants went to the Hotel of the Caisse d'Epargne for the signing of the minutes.
