L'édifice se situe aux confins des régions Île-de-France et Normandie. L'église est dédiée à la Vierge, son vocable est Notre-Dame de la Nativité, même si de nos jours celui de Notre-Dame de la Trinité est fréquemment rencontré. Le plan et l'élévation de l'église semblent correspondre aux caractéristiques romanes (XIe siècle) et plus précisément à celles rencontrées en Île-de-France, voire même en Normandie très proche, alors que l'ébrasement intérieur légèrement ogival marque la transition vers l'époque gothique. Des travaux importants sont intervenus au XIXe siècle puis dans la seconde moitié du XXe siècle, ce qui explique que les ajouts de l'époque médiévale ont été camouflés par plusieurs interventions (charpente, clocher, enduits, réduction de la nef côté choeur, etc.). En 2012, des peintures murales ont été découvertes sur les murs des travées de la nef, elles sont probablement datées des XIVe et XVe siècles. Restaurées entre octobre 2017 et juillet 2018, elles représentent un rare exemple en Île-de-France de décor mural de cette époque qui soit encore conservé (représentations d'un christ pansant ses plaies, Saint-Christophe traversant le fleuve, personnage en pied, etc.).
