Le 4 septembre 1843, Pierre Vacquerie, son fils Artus, son neveu Charles et sa femme Léopoldine, fille de Victor Hugo, périssent noyés au retour d'un voyage entre Villequier et Caudebec-en-Caux. Les tombes des victimes font partie d'un ensemble de six sépultures identiques, à stèle ogivale en pierre calcaire, à tore feuillagé et épitaphes gravées sur plaque de marbre. Les sépultures comprennent également celles de Charles-Amable Vacquerie, beau-père de Léopoldine ; d'Adèle Hugo, épouse du poète ; d'Auguste Vacquerie, frère de Charles. History
On 4 September 1843, Pierre Vacquerie, his son Artus, his nephew Charles and his wife Léopoldine, daughter of Victor Hugo, perish drowned on the return from a journey between Villequier and Caudebec-en-Caux. The tombs of the victims form part of a group of six identical burials, with ogival stone stele in limestone, with foliated torus and epitaphs engraved on marble plaques. The burials also include those of Charles-Amable Vacquerie, father-in-law of Léopoldine; of Adèle Hugo, wife of the poet; of Auguste Vacquerie, brother of Charles. The most recent burial is that of Adèle Hugo, younger daughter of Victor Hugo, who died in 1915.
