Historique
Fondée à Rouen en 1877, la communauté de soeurs franciscaines s'installe en 1883 dans le couvent des soeurs de l'Immaculée Conception, rue de Joyeuse. Les franciscaines font agrandir leur chapelle en 1926 par l'architecte rouennais Jean Leprince, qui conserve une partie du précédent oratoire. L'architecture de cet édifice l'apparente aux édifices néo-régionalistes des années 1920. En 1929, l'abbé Leroy entre en contact avec Maurice Denis à qui est commandée la réalisation d'une peinture murale pour l'abside de la chapelle. La peinture encadrée de deux tondi est réalisée au printemps 1930. La scène principale est une Adoration du Christ en croix, où saint François est représenté accompagné des saintes Claire, Colette, Elisabeth. Les tondi figurent des scènes de la vie de saint François. La chapelle est aujourd'hui désaffectée.

History
Founded in Rouen in 1877, the community of Franciscan sisters settles in 1883 in the convent of the sisters of the Immaculate Conception, rue de Joyeuse. The Franciscans have their chapel enlarged in 1926 by the Rouen architect Jean Leprince, who preserves part of the previous oratory. The architecture of this edifice relates it to the neo-regional buildings of the 1920s. In 1929, the abbé Leroy enters into contact with Maurice Denis to whom is commissioned the realisation of a mural painting for the apse of the chapel. The painting framed by two tondi is realised in the spring of 1930. The main scene is an Adoration of Christ on the cross, where Saint Francis is represented accompanied by the saints Claire, Colette, Elisabeth. The tondi depict scenes from the life of Saint Francis. The chapel is today disused.
