Le financier Emile Gaillard confia en 1878 à l'architecte Victor-Jules Février la création d'un hôtel destiné à abriter ses collections et dont la physionomie devait s'inspirer de l'aile Louis XII du château de Blois. Ce " château Renaissance " fut achevé en 1882. Après le décès du financier en 1902, ses collections furent dispersées, puis en 1919, l'hôtel est acheté par la Banque de France et aménagé (salle des coffres, hall du public, locaux administratifs) par l'architecte Defrasse et le décorateur Jansen. L'hôtel présente globalement un plan en U. Les parements de brique et l'implantation des ouvertures s'inspirent d'édifices ligériens des années 1480-1520.

History
The financier Emile Gaillard entrusted to architect Victor-Jules Février in 1878 the creation of a hotel intended to house his collections and whose appearance was to be inspired by the Louis XII wing of the Château de Blois. This "Renaissance château" was completed in 1882. After the financier's death in 1902, his collections were dispersed, then in 1919, the hotel was purchased by the Banque de France and arranged (safe deposit room, public hall, administrative offices) by architect Defrasse and decorator Jansen. The hotel presents overall a U-shaped plan. The brick facing and the arrangement of openings are inspired by Loire buildings of the years 1480-1520.
