Historique
La tombe de Tania Rachevskaïa, au cimetière Montparnasse, section 22, est ornée d'un monument comprenant un socle, avec son épitaphe, ainsi qu'une statue de Constantin Brancusi dite : le Baiser. La signature du sculpteur est apposée au bas du socle. Ce Baiser, daté de 1909, est le troisième d'une série réalisée par Brancusi de 1907 à 1940. En 1910, Tania Rachevskaïa, étudiante russe, se suicide par amour pour le docteur Marbais, ami et compatriote de Brancusi. En son hommage, le médecin commande au sculpteur un monument funéraire sur la tombe de la jeune fille et c'est le Baiser qui fut choisi. Son installation remonte à la toute fin de l'année 1910 ou tout début 1911.

History
The tomb of Tania Rachevskaïa, in Montparnasse Cemetery, section 22, is adorned with a monument comprising a pedestal, with its epitaph, as well as a statue by Constantin Brancusi called: the Kiss. The sculptor's signature is affixed at the base of the pedestal. This Kiss, dated 1909, is the third in a series created by Brancusi from 1907 to 1940. In 1910, Tania Rachevskaïa, a Russian student, commits suicide for love of Doctor Marbais, friend and compatriot of Brancusi. In her honour, the doctor commissions the sculptor a funerary monument on the young girl's tomb and it is the Kiss that was chosen. Its installation dates to the very end of 1910 or early 1911.
