Flumet has played at least since the 11th century a particular strategic role in the Arly valley, being situated at the borders of Faucigny. A château will be built there in the 11th century, where the lords of Faucigny sometimes resided, and the town will be fortified in the 12th century. Because of the numerous privileges granted to it, an important bourgeoisie develops there through commerce and the magistrature. It is thus that the Bieux family (improperly called "counts" of Bieux) came to settle in Flumet, acquiring property there from the 13th century. One of them, Jean de Flumet, will be castellan of Flumet in 1311, other descendants will occupy important positions in this castellany. The construction of the fortified house of the counts of Bieux is dated to the second half of the 15th century, with possible earlier construction. This dwelling will remain in the family until its extinction in 1822.

The house of the counts of Bieux is situated on a small mound overlooking the D1212 at the borders of the old village centre. The building presents three distinct elements: a square building body of two storeys, a square tower of three storeys on the east façade of it, and, attached to the north of the central building, overhanging the passing road, a round tower levelled with rare very narrow openings. The white paint decorating the top of the square tower would be in relation with a right of (low) justice. The structure recalls that of the fortified house of Vons at Marigny-saint-Marcel. The most notable elements of the building, on the interior, are: - the "chapel", on the ground floor of the main building descending a few steps, with interesting rib vaults having preserved beautiful vault keys. The pillars are of rustic workmanship as are the capitals. - the staircase cage and landings, whose groined vaults have retained vault keys with varied and original ornaments (faces, geometric elements) - a massive moulded fireplace in what must have been the aula of this fortified house; - the coussièges or watch benches.
