Ce site immergé fait partie des cités lacustres étudiées dans la région Rhône-Alpes contenant les vestiges de l'occupation humaine en milieu humide, de l'habitat ainsi que les pieux de soutènement des bâtiments de bois, encore visibles. Ces témoignages allant du Néolithique à l'Age de Bronze constituent l'un des grands thèmes de la préhistoire européenne. Le site de Hautecombe correspond à la période du Néolithique moyen et récent. A partir de 1980, décapages et carottages sont entrepris jusqu'en 2004. Des phases d'abattage sont proposées, avec réserve, en -3842 et vers -3835 et -3830. Une autre séquence, définie par le radiocarbone, suggère une occupation plus récente (-3375/-3040 cal. BC), au Néolithique moyen/récent. Ce gisement est le plus vieux connu actuellement au lac du Bourget.

This submerged site is part of the lakeside settlements studied in the Rhône-Alpes region containing the vestiges of human occupation in a wet environment, of the habitat as well as the supporting piles of wooden buildings, still visible. These testimonies ranging from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age constitute one of the great themes of European prehistory. The site of Hautecombe corresponds to the period of the middle and recent Neolithic. From 1980, topsoil removal and coring are undertaken until 2004. Felling phases are proposed, with reservation, at -3842 and around -3835 and -3830. Another sequence, defined by radiocarbon, suggests a more recent occupation (-3375/-3040 cal. BC), in the middle/recent Neolithic. This deposit is the oldest currently known at Lac du Bourget.
