Historique

History
Witness to the institutional and popular religious practices of Haute-Maurienne in the 18th and 19th centuries. Church of rectangular plan with flat chevet. Until the early 20th century, entry was by the main portal to the west for men, by the north side entrance for women. The present building was constructed in 1603, on a pre-existing building, enlarged in 1658. In 1699, reconstruction of the choir. The nave is composed of three bays covered with groin vaults. In 1700, Bernard Flandin, sculptor gilder, receives a first prix-fait for three retables, completed by Sébastien Rosaz de Termignon and Jean Symond de Bramans. The decoration of the choir was executed by J. di Domenico de Rozzo de la Valsesia, in 1742. The vaults of the nave were painted in 1843. The first bays bear geometric decoration; the vault of the transept crossing is ornamented with the lamb and the seven seals surrounded by the four doctors of the Church. In 1683, the confraternity of the White Penitents of the Blessed Sacrament had the gallery erected, decorated with scrollwork and cherubs in stucco, whose balustrade is adorned with fifteen panels of painted wood. The chapel of Saint-Pierre, of rectangular plan, was founded in 1483 by Pierre Thibiéroz. The chapel of Notre-Dame de la Vie, of rectangular plan, was constructed in 1671 and composed of tufa for the openings, the façade and the portal. Inside, the nave is composed of one bay and a choir with groin vaults. Chapel restored in 1855. The chapel of saint-Jean-Baptiste is consecrated in 1671. The chapel of saint-Joseph was constructed in 1672.
