Historique

History
A first occupation site is attested in the vicinity of the castle around the year 1000. According to tradition, the primitive fortress would have been built in 1150 by Hugues de Brancion. The complex is organized within two enclosures. Three successive castles seem to have been built and improved. Of the second castle, destroyed in 1565, two round towers with arrow slits and gun ports remain. The present building probably dates from the 17th century and was updated to the fashion of the 18th. Access to the terrace is by means of a portal flanked by two pilasters surmounted by flower vases and an iron grille. The castle is formed of a rectangular main dwelling, presenting a main façade flanked by two square towers. The rear façade presents two wings in return, linked by a building roofed with a terrace. The interior was partly remodeled at the beginning of the 19th century, but has presumably retained its ancient organization. The two towers bordering the court to the south contain a superposition of three rooms, the south-east tower preserving wall paintings and a painted ceiling of the 17th century. A garden, an English park and a kitchen garden complete the complex.
