Historique
Fontaine construite entre 1830 et 1835 par les architectes César Convers et Alphonse Delacroix, à l'issue de travaux d'aménagement et d'élévation d'une source, principal point d'alimentation en eau de la ville basse. Suivant une composition pyramidale, l'édifice comprenait un réservoir de plan rectangulaire, surmonté d'un château d'eau en forme de temple dorique contre lequel s'appuyaient trois bassins concentriques en cascade. Des transformations furent réalisées en 1867, suivant les plans de l'architecte Girod de Pontarlier. Les trois bassins ont été supprimés et remplacés par un seul. Au centre a été élevé un socle en pierre de taille destiné à recevoir une statue ou un groupe sculpté.

History
Fountain constructed between 1830 and 1835 by architects César Convers and Alphonse Delacroix, following works of development and elevation of a spring, the principal point of water supply for the lower town. Following a pyramidal composition, the building comprised a rectangular-plan reservoir, surmounted by a water tower in the form of a Doric temple against which three concentric cascading basins were set. Transformations were carried out in 1867, following the plans of architect Girod de Pontarlier. The three basins were removed and replaced by a single one. At the centre a pedestal of ashlar stone was raised intended to receive a statue or sculptural group.
