History
This workshop is considered a testimony to home-based silk weaving industry in Lyon in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is characteristic of the canut buildings of Lyon of the first half of the 19th century. In 1878, weaver Pierre Millan installed the main workshop on the second floor of the building, an annexed workshop, two rooms for winding and a small loft for workers shared the third. In 1939, Georges Mattelon bought the building and had built in 1948-1951, a workshop of mechanical looms at the rear of the plot while continuing traditional production on hand looms, still preserved to this day.
