Historique

History
The castle is a reconstitution in neo-Romanesque style realised by the architect Karl Erich Loebell. The first castle is attested from 1125. Destroyed by the Strasbourgeois in 1378, it is rebuilt then sporadically occupied or abandoned after 1464. Sold as national property, the ruin is acquired by the Napoleonic marshal Clarke, whom Napoleon makes count of Hunebourg. The medieval keep is then demolished, and a hunting lodge is built below the castle, while a grotto of love is laid out in the park.
