Au 13e siècle, construction d'une première enceinte fortifiée. Dès 1321, d'importants travaux dotent Neuwiller d'une double enceinte pourvue d'un fossé. Le cimetière est localisé extra-muros et organisé dans la lice du mur d'enceinte nord-est en sept sections discontinues datables de 1260 à 1870. Sur des moellons du mur d'enceinte, se trouvent des inscriptions en caractères hébraïques, réalisées entre 1260 et 1550 : cela en fait le plus ancien cimetière juif d'Alsace.

History
In the 13th century, construction of a first fortified enclosure. From 1321 onwards, important works provided Neuwiller with a double enclosure furnished with a ditch. The cemetery is located extra-muros and organised in the lice of the north-east enclosure wall in seven discontinuous sections datable from 1260 to 1870. On rubble stones of the enclosure wall are found inscriptions in Hebrew characters, made between 1260 and 1550: this makes it the oldest Jewish cemetery in Alsace.
