Au cours du 19e siècle, la côte des Albères se couvre d'ouvrages militaires assurant la défense côtière. La construction du fort Dugommier s'étend de 1844 à 1852, mais l'ouvrage tombe en ruine dès la fin du 19e siècle. L'ouvrage conserve glacis, contrescarpe, fossé, escarpe et terre-plein. Des salles souterraines sont aménagées au bas de la contrescarpe, équipées de fenêtres de tir. History
During the 19th century, the coast of the Albères became covered with military works ensuring coastal defence. The construction of fort Dugommier extends from 1844 to 1852, but the work falls into ruin from the late 19th century onwards. The work preserves the glacis, counterscarp, ditch, scarp and terreplein. A drawbridge spanning the ditch gave access to the barracks building. The redoubt is surrounded by a deep faced ditch. Underground rooms are laid out at the base of the counterscarp, equipped with firing windows. These "counter-fire" chambers are connected by a barrel-vaulted gallery which borders the south and west ditches.
