Le théâtre de Pau prend la place des vestiges de l'église Saint-Louis, inachevée. En 1839, le maire demande à l'architecte, Pierre-Bernard Lefranc, l'étude d'un projet de construction comprenant dans le même bâtiment, théâtre, salle de concert et cercles. Jamais payé à l'architecte, le projet est enterré. Il est repris en 1854. L'architecte, Gustave Lévy, est chargé de la mise en oeuvre des plans de Lefranc. Le théâtre, inauguré en 1862, présente des décors sculptés de la manufacture Virebent. En 1876, le conseil municipal décide d'acheter le théâtre et ses dépendances pour transformer la partie sud du bâtiment en mairie.

History
The theatre of Pau takes the place of the remains of the church of Saint-Louis, which was unfinished. In 1839, the mayor asks the architect, Pierre-Bernard Lefranc, to study a construction project comprising in the same building, a theatre, concert hall and clubs. Never paid to the architect, the project is abandoned. It is taken up again in 1854. The architect, Gustave Lévy, is entrusted with implementing the plans of Lefranc. The theatre, inaugurated in 1862, presents sculptural decoration from the Virebent manufactory.
