Le château d'Espalungue se trouve à l'écart de Laruns, en face du quartier de Pon, sur la rive droite du gave d'Ossau. La première mention d'un seigneur d'Espalungue remonte au milieu du XIIe siècle, mais le plan et la maçonnerie du noyau du château sont plutôt à attribuer au XIIIe siècle. Autour de ce noyau, des constructions du XVIIe sont venues chemiser la salle et la tour médiévale, modifiant son contour et ses baies. Le logis rectangulaire est cantonné par une petite tour carrée à son angle nord et une autre tour abritant un escalier en vis, à l'angle sud-ouest. La chapelle fut consacrée en 1694. L'intérieur conserve une cheminée Renaissance ainsi que d'intéressants lambris en noyer et des toiles peintes.

History
The château of Espalungue is located apart from Laruns, facing the district of Pon, on the right bank of the gave d'Ossau. The first mention of a lord of Espalungue dates back to the middle of the 12th century, but the plan and masonry of the nucleus of the castle are rather to be attributed to the 13th century. Around this nucleus, constructions from the 17th century came to face the medieval hall and tower, modifying its outline and openings. The rectangular main dwelling is flanked by a small square tower at its north corner and another tower housing a spiral staircase at the south-west corner. The chapel was consecrated in 1694. The interior preserves a Renaissance fireplace as well as interesting walnut panelling and painted canvases.
