Historique

History
The family of Olce is mentioned at the end of the 14th century. The present château was rebuilt in the 17th century by monseigneur Jean d'Olce, bishop of Bayonne, on older structures. The edifice consists of a central block flanked by two square pavilions. Behind the main façade appears an earlier building, probably of the type of the traditional Navarrese fortified house, a massive block of rough rubble stone, blind on the west. L-shaped outbuildings remain. The interior preserves decorative elements. A large staircase cage occupies half of the main dwelling, creating a vast central space. On the landings are found vases of flowers and flame-pots. At the upper level, a small gallery affords a view of a ceiling with voussures and stucco decoration, framing the arms of the bishop. The same decoration is found in the ceiling of the chapel which occupies the ground floor of the left pavilion. In the right pavilion is the kitchen. On the upper floor, the great hall preserves a chimney with stucco decoration.
