La vicomté de Sault était placée entre le duché de Gascogne, dont elle relevait, et la vicomté de Béarn. Anglais et Béarnais se disputèrent tout au long du 13e siècle, la suzeraineté de cette seigneurie et le contrôle de son château. History
The viscounty of Sault was placed between the duchy of Gascony, to which it was subject, and the viscounty of Béarn. English and Béarnais disputed throughout the 13th century the suzerainty of this seigneury and the control of its castle. The latter, occupying a strategic position, was besieged several times. In 1263, the lord of Sault, allied with Gaston VII Moncade, was forced to demolish the keep of the castle of Sault. But, a century later, the place still constituted, according to Froissart, a strong castle. There survives today of this castle, raised on a motte, a tower and a stretch of wall.
