Put into service in the 1740s by Laurent Beugnière de la Tour who had built a major copper foundry which became one of the largest in France with 400 workers in 1789. Temporarily disused, the factory was put back into operation in 1802 and transformed, by the mining engineer Muthuon, into a Catalan forge to treat iron ore. In 1823, the master of the forge Jean-Baptiste Ricqbour had a metallurgical factory built whose blast furnace is still in place. Located on the margins of exchange networks and lacking fuel, which the neighbouring forests could no longer supply, the forge was forced to close in 1864. The blast furnace is one of the rare witnesses to this technology as complete in a practically intact site, including the mine galleries. The blast furnace was altered just before its closure and the whole in pink sandstone is practically intact. It is situated on the 18th-century copper mine, of ancient origin.
