History
Dependent on the seigneury of Mercoeur, this tower built in the second half of the 12th century and completed in the 13th, played both a symbolic and defensive role in the network of this territory. Standing on a rocky outcrop, it was defended on its other accesses by a ditch and an embankment. According to a typology peculiar to Romanesque seigneurial towers of southern Auvergne, it is characterised by a square plan, small dimensions, and a barrel vault system. Three levels, two of which have barrel vaulting and one level of terrace surrounded by a parapet of which the bases remain.
