En 1924, un concours est organisé pour l'érection du monument aux morts et le projet du sculpteur Félix Desruelles est retenu. Le monument est inauguré en 1928. History
In 1924, a competition is organized for the erection of the war memorial and the project of the sculptor Félix Desruelles is retained. The monument is inaugurated in 1928. On a large square pedestal, a woman draped in a large shroud symbolizing Humanity contemplates at her feet the bodies of two dead soldiers. An inverted Ionic capital is found in one corner of the pedestal. The female figure draws together the folds of her drapery by joining her hands in silent prayer. Auchel presents a synthesis of the sculptor's reflections on the commemoration of war. Desruelle adds to this synthesis the evocation of a paradise regained after the war, the life of the miner within his family.
