Historique

History
Fortress of the 14th-15th centuries, of quadrangular plan surrounded by round towers and a rectangular keep. On the western flank, a round tower, called "le fort", is the part surviving from the medieval period. In 1750, part of the castle is demolished and a new building reconstructed, of which the entrance façade remains. The castle is sold several times during the 19th century. In 1860, construction of the castle chapel by Baron Béthune, Belgian architect, champion of neo-Gothic style. Later, he adds a gallery of troubadour style to the 18th-century façade, and constructs a wing at right angles with a square keep at the junction of the two buildings. During the First World War, the castle serves as an infirmary. The building is occupied by the English and then the Germans during the Second World War. A model farm, rebuilt after the First World War, faces the castle. A large enclosed vegetable-orchard, bounded by walls, closes the space between the castle and the farm. A Lourdes grotto has been erected in the park.
