Historique
La seigneurie de Wierre-au-Bois, mentionnée dès 1113, a appartenu successivement à plusieurs familles : au 15e siècle, elle était la propriété de la famille de la Bouverie, et c'est sans doute à Jean de la Bouverie, sénéchal du Boulonnais, que l'on doit les parties les plus anciennes du château. Au 16e siècle, le château est devenu un lieu de prêche du protestantisme. Des remaniements ont eu lieu aux 17e et 18e siècles (corps d'entrée et corps de logis). Acquis par la famille De Bonnières au 18e siècle, le domaine de Wierre-au-Bois est devenu la résidence d'été du célèbre critique littéraire Sainte-Beuve, cousin de la famille, jusqu'en 1823. Il a laissé de ses vacances de jeunesse des écrits et riches descriptions du château, notamment dans son roman Volupté. Des dépendances ont été ajoutées au 19e siècle.

History
The lordship of Wierre-au-Bois, mentioned from 1113, was successively the property of several families: in the 15th century, it was the property of the de la Bouverie family, and it is doubtless to Jean de la Bouverie, seneschal of Boulonnais, that the oldest parts of the castle are due. In the 16th century, the castle became a place of Protestant preaching. Alterations took place in the 17th and 18th centuries (entrance wing and main dwelling wing). Acquired by the De Bonnières family in the 18th century, the domain of Wierre-au-Bois became the summer residence of the celebrated literary critic Sainte-Beuve, cousin of the family, until 1823. He left from his youthful holidays writings and rich descriptions of the castle, notably in his novel Volupté. Outbuildings were added in the 19th century.
