Historique
L'origine de l'édifice remonte à la fin du 15e siècle. Sur un parcellaire qui n'a cessé de s'étendre jusqu'au 19e siècle, divers bâtiments se sont implantés. La longue façade sur la rue de Wissocq montre, dans une homogénéité parfaite, le savoir faire des maçons audomarois sur une période d'un siècle (1778-1880). La chapelle néo-gothique des années 1860 s'inscrit perpendiculairement à la rue. Le bâtiment de la Communauté, de la fin du 18e siècle, longe le flégard, vestige de voirie médiévale. Le bâtiment Saint-François est le seul subsistant du couvent des Filles Repenties, et il renferme, outre des traces archéologiques de bâtiments plus anciens, une intéressante lingerie qui a conservé ses dispositions d'origine. Cet ensemble de bâtiments peut sembler à priori hétéroclite. Cependant, il s'est inséré dans le parcellaire de façon cohérente au cours des siècles, avec un souci de qualité architecturale toujours présent. Il est la mémoire de l'histoire des hôpitaux de Saint-Omer.

History
The origin of the edifice goes back to the end of the 15th century. On a plot of land which continued to expand until the 19th century, various buildings were established. The long façade on the rue de Wissocq displays, in perfect homogeneity, the skill of the stonemasons of Saint-Omer over a period of a century (1778-1880). The neo-Gothic chapel of the 1860s is positioned perpendicularly to the street. The Community building, from the end of the 18th century, runs along the flégard, a remnant of medieval roadway. The Saint-François building is the only survivor of the convent of the Repentant Daughters, and it contains, in addition to archaeological traces of older buildings, an interesting laundry which has retained its original arrangement. This ensemble of buildings may at first appear heterogeneous. However, it fitted into the plot of land coherently in the course of centuries, with a constant concern for architectural quality. It is the memory of the history of the hospitals of Saint-Omer.
