Historique

History
Town hall built in a neo-regionalist style with Flemish Renaissance inspiration by the Bruaysian architect Hanote in 1927, to meet the increase in population. In the stairwell is found a set of stained glass windows depicting subject matter of pit 3 of the Bruay mines, a set produced by the master glaziers Labille and Bertrand, of Lille. The new building was envisaged within a large urban planning scheme which provided for the development of a large square surrounded by brick retaining walls topped by reinforced cement fencing, onto which gave two major streets. Such an installation necessitated the demolition of workers' houses belonging to the company, whose architects provided for the reuse of materials for the lower foundations. The foundation stone was laid in 1928. The inauguration of the building took place on 27 September 1931. The ground floor houses the police, the tax office and a large space devoted to the justice of the peace. On the upper floor are found, at the centre, a large employees' office and a large vestibule as well as, on one side, the director's office and, on the other, that of the mayor, his deputies and the general secretary. The top floor is occupied by the marriage hall and that of the council.
