Historique

History
The reconstruction of the church of Rocquigny, destroyed by the 1914-1918 war, was the subject of a competition at the end of which the project of architect Jean-Louis Sourdeau was retained. He designed a building of new aesthetic, making wide use of reinforced concrete, notably for its campanile bell tower, unique in the region. The originality of its plan and design, the quality of its decoration make this church a major element for the architecture of the first reconstruction in the Pas-de-Calais department. The project of Jean-Louis Sourdeau was approved by the diocese of Arras on 6 March 1928 and the church was built during the years 1929-1930. It is decorated with stained glass windows of glass block by Jean Gaudin and mosaics by the brothers Mauméjean. Following the degradation of the mortar of the brick joints and the reinforced concrete of the bell tower elements, it was necessary to remove the latter. Provisional strengthening work has been undertaken on the entire building which remains of great fragility. A solution for the reconstruction of the bell tower is under study.
