Historique
La construction du château actuel remonte aux années 1780. Il s'agit d'un édifice en pierre calcaire. En 1823, le domaine est vendu à Auguste Valpinçon qui y accueillera, en 1859, le peintre Edgar Degas. Il sera logé au premier étage du château et son atelier sera aménagé dans le pavillon de briques. Le château est bâti selon des proportions très étudiées et comprend toute une série de bâtiments et de fabriques, pratiquement toutes ajoutées au 19ème siècle, ainsi qu'un réseau hydraulique très important (dont un bassin, « la poire », qui agrémente le parc), un parc paysager, un ancien potager, des serres etc.Cet ensemble présente un intérêt architectural en tant qu'ensemble domanial témoignant d'une activité économique autarcique mais également un intérêt artistique par la présence de la famille Valpinçon et ses liens avec Degas.

History
The construction of the present château dates back to the 1780s. It is a building in limestone. In 1823, the estate was sold to Auguste Valpinçon who would welcome, in 1859, the painter Edgar Degas.
