L'église Saint-Jacques de Beauvais, édifice néo-gothique, fait partie de ces constructions qui à la fin du XIXe siècle ont remplacé les anciennes églises, parce qu'elles étaient soit trop vétustes pour les restaurer, soit trop exiguës pour faire face à l'expansion démographique de certains nouveaux quartiers urbains. La documentation sur cette église fait complètement défaut, en particulier les archives de l'architecte Delefortrie, vraisemblablement à cause des bombardements sévères en 1940 à Beauvais qui ont détruit toutes les archives diocésaines et une partie des archives départementales. Cependant, la très bonne connaissance que nous avons par ailleurs sur son œuvre, en particulier dans la Somme ( comme les églises de Bernaville, de Le Quesnel-en-Santerre, de Sainte-Anne à Amiens), nous permet de situer cette église dans la lignée des grandes églises très élaborées conçues par lui : volumes importants, composition soignée du plan et des élévations, décor sculpté très présent à l'extérieur et particulièrement en façade sur le clocher porche, comme à l'intérieur aux points clefs traditionnels, les chapiteaux et les cordons et moulures soulignant les étages, présence de verrières importantes dans le même style néo-médiéval. C'est un édifice intéressant dans sa catégorie, dont l'architecte bien connu dans le département de la Somme est prestigieux.

The Church of Saint-Jacques in Beauvais, a Neo-Gothic edifice, is part of those constructions which at the end of the 19th century replaced the old churches, because they were either too dilapidated to restore, or too cramped to cope with the demographic expansion of certain new urban districts.
