L'hôtel particulier de la rue Bellon a été construit vers 1705 pour Dame Marie de Saint Gobert, veuve d'Antoine Grondeau, écuyer, conseiller et secrétaire du Roi. Il s'agit d'un hôtel entre cour et jardin d'une grande sobriété classique, qui se caractérise en élévation par la symétrie de la structure, la rigueur des lignes et la discrétion des éléments de décor propre à la « manière simple » qui prédomine à la fin de règne de Louis XIV. Suite au percement de la rue de la République sur le flanc ouest de l'hôtel, la nouvelle propriétaire Marie Anne Catherine de Saint Leu, veuve de Nicolas Dufresne, avocat en Parlement, conseiller du roi, élu en l'élection de Senlis et subdélégué de l'intendance de la généralité de Paris, fait l'acquisition de parcelles voisines en 1754. Elle accroit ainsi le jardin et l'aménage en un vaste parc arboré en cœur de ville. L'hôtel connait de profondes transformations dans sa distribution intérieure au cours du XXe siècle, étant successivement école de fille, tribunal de Grande Instance et de Commerce puis centre social du Conseil départemental. Le jardin va quant à lui être partiellement transformé pour créer des emplacements de stationnement public.

History
The townhouse on rue Bellon was built around 1705 for Dame Marie de Saint Gobert, widow of Antoine Grondeau, esquire, counsellor and secretary to the King. It is a townhouse between courtyard and garden of great classical sobriety, which is characterized in elevation by the symmetry of the structure, the rigour of the lines and the discretion of the decorative elements typical of the « simple manner » which predomined at the end of the reign of Louis XIV. Following the opening of rue de la République on the west side of the townhouse, the new owner Marie Anne Catherine de Saint Leu, widow of Nicolas Dufresne, lawyer in Parliament, counsellor to the king, elected in the election of Senlis and sub-delegate of the intendancy of the généralité of Paris, acquired neighbouring parcels in 1754. She thus increased the garden and arranged it as a vast wooded park in the heart of the city. The townhouse underwent profound transformations in its internal layout during the 20th century, being successively a girls' school, a court of first instance and commerce, then a social centre of the departmental council. The garden, for its part, was partially transformed to create public parking spaces.
