History
Built in 1932 by the Amiens architect Pierre Ansart at the request of Gérard de Berny, the chapel constitutes one of the most remarkable achievements in funerary art of the interwar period. Built in brick and concrete, the chapel is decorated with interlaces, inscriptions and bricks arranged in a chequered pattern or herringbone. Gérard Ansart, son of the architect, designed the interior decoration (cartoons of the danse macabre in mosaic adorning the chapel; cartoons of the stained glass). Jean Gaudin, Parisian mosaicist and master glazier, executed the mosaics and stained glass.
